| Route Description | The walk takes you from the home of world yachting at Cowes along a tree lined cycleway down to Newport Quay and back along the estuary's eastern bank towards the sea again at East Cowes. To make the walk circular, use the Floating Bridge or chain ferry which links Cowes and East Cowes and which itself displays lots of interesting information and artwork about local heritage. | ||||||
| Terrain Details | The walk is fairly level with some sections in town. The western side of the estuary is a cycleway. There are a few stretches around Newport Quay and on the north east of the estuary that have no pavement so care is needed. | ||||||
| Access Info / Public Transport | The path on the Western side of the Estuary is a cycleway which is suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs but the Eastern side is public footpath with occasional stiles. The Floating Bridge or chain ferry at the mouth of the Estuary is free of charge to foot passengers and cyclists and runs throughout the day. | ||||||
| Services / Amenities | The start point of Cowes and East Cowes and the midway point of Newport are all sizeable towns with a range of shops, pubs and cafes. There is also a pub half way along the eastern stretch of the shore. There are picnic sites on either shore on the outskirts of Newport. | ||||||
