Breakfast bonanza reveals oats don’t grow on trees:
NFU members joined forces with speciality food producers during Farmhouse Breakfast Week last week to help kids realise that oats don’t grow on trees
Research conducted for HGCA, organisers of the Week, and the NFU, showed that more than a quarter of 16 year olds believe oats come from trees and 26% of children think bacon comes from sheep. Adults under 30 also showed a poor knowledge.
The National Farmers Union supported a wide range of events across the South East, most involving young people sampling breakfasts of local produce. Children also came onto NFU members’ farms for breakfast activities and farmers spoke in schools.
