Introduction
The counties that make up the South East region boast some of the finest areas in which to enjoy all aspects of equestrianism. For riders of all levels of experience there are some brilliant opportunities for on and off road hacking on the fabulous rights of way networks of the region. For hearty days out in wonderful surroundings, you can take your pick from a variety of waymarked circular routes with horsebox parking and horse friendly pubs en route. If you really feel at home in the saddle, you could tackle one of the long distance trails like the South Downs Way or The Ridgeway. These are both almost entirely off road and take in some of the country's finest and most uplifting scenery. There are horse-friendly B&Bs along the route so your four legged companion will be assured of a good nights sleep too! Take your own horse or join in an organised trip with experienced horses and like-minded people.
If you prefer to watch riding rather than taking part, the South East has plenty to offer you. The region boasts some of Britain's most famous racecourses, hosting some of the most important events in the sporting calendar - evocative names like Royal Ascot and Glorious Goodwood speak for themselves. Or, for a change, check out the International Nations Cup show jumping at Hickstead. Why not combine a day at the races with a visit to a local attraction, country garden, historic house, church or castle?
The South East boasts some of England's finest landscapes and on horseback you get the greatest view of all!
