Introduction
The beautiful countryside of the South East is a perfect setting for a cycling trip. The variety of landscapes in the region means that there is something for everyone - our downland landscapes offer plenty of ups and downs for energetic cyclists or, if a more leisurely ride appeals to you, why not try a scenic trail along the riverbank?
If you want to head for the hills on a long distance trail, then the 161km South Downs Way offers cyclists a wonderful, undulating off road route. For a shorter break, you could cycle around the quiet lanes of the Isle of Wight and cover the whole Island in a weekend. These are just a taster - the network of cycle routes in the region means that you are free to explore some of the country's finest landscapes by bike - search our extensive routes for more information.
Why not make a holiday out of it? You can organise your own trip or put yourself in the safe hands of a cycling holiday operator to take away any worries. You can be based in one place and explore in a different direction each day or move from place to place each night and really get to know the region by bike. Don't worry about carrying heavy bags - there are companies who will move them for you, even on a self organised trip. Imagine freewheeling down country lanes through beautiful scenery and finishing the day with the satisfaction of a hearty meal after a day in the saddle. Take a look at our country breaks and links sections for some great holiday ideas and services.
If you just want a day's cycling then there are plenty of circular cycle routes across the region which are well signposted and easy to follow and take you through some of our best countryside. What are you waiting for...?
