Description:

White Down is part of the Wotton Estate open to the public by agreement between the Evelyn family, the owners and Surrey County Council. It is managed by Surrey Wildlife Trust Countryside Services and The National Trust.

Parts of the scarp slope of White Down have been designated as Sites of Special Scientific Interest, because of the unique assemblage of rare and beautiful fauna and flora to be found there. Strenuous and ongoing efforts are being made to conserve this habitat by grazing with sheep.

The ridge is comprised of a variety of mixed woodland that is being actively managed for forestry, including one of the larger bluebell woods on the North Downs.

There are some magnificent views across to Leith Hill and Holmbury Hill on the Greensand Ridge.
